Rosamond "Roz" Akins passed away peacefully the morning of March 12, 2025, at the age of 82.
Roz was born in Denver, Colorado, to Charles and Barabel McPhee. From a young age, she had a deep love for horses, spending hours drawing, painting, and riding them. That passion stayed with her throughout her life. Later, when she lived in Oklahoma, she was finally able to have horses of her own-something she cherished deeply-along with her beloved dogs.
Roz graduated from East Denver High School in 1960 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Colorado Women's College in 1964. In 1993, she met Rick Akins and they married in 1995. After they married, Roz and Rick made their home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where they built a life full of love and adventure.
An avid motorcycle rider, Roz and Rick traveled through 15 states on their bikes, enjoying the open road and making memories together. Whether she was riding, caring for her animals, or spending time with family and friends, Roz had a warmth and sense of adventure that touched everyone who knew her.
Roz is survived by her daughter Debbie Mitchell and husband Robert Mitchell of Tahlequah, OK; stepson John Akins and wife Danielle of Sapulpa, OK; stepdaughter Beth Akins of Tulsa, OK; surviving grandchildren include Lauren Helms and husband Jace of Arkansas; Kaelin Mitchell; Tyler, Addison, Jacob and Devina Akins; all in Oklahoma; great granddaughter Margot Helms of Arkansas.
