On Friday, Feb 3, 2023 Rose J Foster died peacefully in the home of her daughter, Colleen, and son-in-law, Dennis Oliphant. She was in hospice care after suffering from a brain hemorrhage. She was 88 years old. Rose was surrounded at the last by the care and love of her daughters, Colleen and Laurie, and sons-in-law, Dennis and Andy.
Rose was a mother, homemaker, and pastor's wife. She was born in Wellington, Texas, to Ted and Ida Johnson in the Depression era. As a young girl she picked cotton by hand. Attending school in Shamrock, Texas, she graduated from high school in 1952 when she was elected by her class as Winter Queen. From 1952 to 1954 she was enrolled in Dallas Christian College where she showed a great aptitude for music and the study of the Bible. Rose became accomplished at both the piano and organ and she played for church services for almost 70 years.
In 1955 she married pastor Bob Osburn in Dallas, Texas. As a ministerial couple, they served independent Christian Churches in the states of Kansas and Oregon. They had two daughters, Colleen and Laurie. In 1982 Bob died of pancreatic cancer supported by the love of Rose and both their daughters. She was remarried in 1984 to Max Foster, a local Arkansas City, Kansas, dentist and churchman. After Max's death in 2007, Rose continued living in Arkansas City where she was a long-time member of the Random Road Chapel. She served as organist there for many years. In 2019 she moved to Burgundy Place Senior Living, Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be closer to her daughter and the residents at Burgundy have also become like her family.
Rose is survived by eldest daughter, Colleen Oliphant, and her husband, Dennis Oliphant, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; youngest daughter, Laurie Currier, and her husband, Andrew Currier, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and by granddaughter, Jessica Niemeyer, and her husband, Keith Niemeyer, and great granddaughter, Eden Rose Niemeyer.
Rose was a faithful member of the independent Christian Church, and was a dedicated church woman throughout her life. She loved playing hymns on her organ, reading novels, listening to classical music, and enjoying the companionship of her family, numerous friends, and her poodle dog Toby.
