A memorial service with full military honor in celebration of the life of Roy A. Johnson, Jr., 83 of Owasso, was held Friday, November 1st, 2013 at the Owasso Church of Christ with Pastor Dan Schnell officiating.
An interment service followed at Resthaven Cemetery in Sperry. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Moore?s Owasso Chapel.
Johnson was born January 28, 1930 to Florence (Hensley) Johnson and Roy A. Johnson, Sr. in Birch Tree, Missouri. He married Donna Lou (Holden) Johnson on April 6, 1951 at Mingo Baptist Church in Tulsa. They made their home in the Mingo community of Tulsa where they owned and operated Roy?s Café for 38 years. After the airport buyout in 1995, he and Donna made their home in Owasso. They were married 55 years until her passing in 2006. Many would recognize him from working as a door greeter at the Owasso Wal-Mart for nearly a decade during his retirement.
Johnson is a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea from 1951 to 1952. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and an ordained minister performing many weddings and other special services throughout the years.
His favorite pastime was fishing, a hobby he shared with his wife and family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, always making people laugh and feel special.
Survivors include three children, Tom Johnson and wife, Mary, of Owasso, Royetta Link of Alabama, and Tim Johnson and wife, Debbie, of Owasso; six grandchildren Tom?s four sons, Jim of Owasso, John of Texas, Shane of Tulsa and Justin of Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Tim?s two daughters, Angela Holland and husband, Scott, and Amber Webb and husband Robert, all of Owasso; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and his wife.
Pallbearers were Tom Johnson, Tim Johnson, Jim Johnson, Justin Johnson, Robert Webb, Jr., and Scott Holland. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Webb, Sr., Elmer Vandeventer, Kenneth Ratliff, Amos Alberty and Kiowa Johnson
