Obituary

Roy Lance Petitt, 48, of Broken Arrow Oklahoma, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 6th, 2025.

Lance was born on August 5th, 1976, to his proud parents Roy Dale Petitt and Andrea Elizabeth Petitt in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lance soon became a loving big brother to his baby sister, Lara. While in school, he excelled at basketball, and loved wrestling, being on the lake, hunting, and debating - inside or outside of the classroom. During his teen years, he volunteered as a counselor for several summers at Camp O'Leary, a camp for children with juvenile diabetes. After thriving in Sand Springs Public Schools, he graduated in 1994 from Charles Page High School. He then went on to study at the University of Tulsa after receiving a full academic scholarship. Lance worked at various companies until he found a position as a bulk delivery driver working for Pepsi. In December of 2002, he was making a delivery to a QuikTrip on his new route, and he caught the eye of an employee at the store. They quickly became inseparable, and he proposed December 24th, 2003. Lance and Stephanie were married in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on August 13th, 2004, in front of their closest loved ones. After the tragic loss of his sister, Lara, in January 2006, they adopted her daughter, Noa. Lance and Stephanie went on to have two additional children, Aiden and Abby. As a family of 5, they cultivated a love of food, travel, and family time.

Once all the kids were in school, Lance started volunteering on his days off at Country Lane Primary Elementary School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There he was able to renew his passion of helping kids. After re-discovering the joy he felt in working with children, he became a part-time substitute teacher. That position brought him so much happiness that he decided to leave Pepsi after 15 years and start substitute teaching full-time. This allowed him to spend time with his children when they weren't in school and enjoy going to work each day making a difference in other children's lives. That same year he was offered a job as the Principal's Secretary. Lance worked for Broken Arrow Public Schools in various positions for 10 years, until his death.

Lance's family was his pride and joy. He never missed an opportunity to see Noa, Aiden, or Abby in any of their extracurricular activities or life achievements. He loved spending time together. His passion of travel and food took them to many destinations. From New York for beef on weck, New York style pizza, and lunch at Kat'z Deli, Chicago for authentic deep-dish pizza, and Italian beef sandwiches, Jamaica for jerk chicken at Scotchie's, New Orleans for anything Cajun and the obligatory Po-boy sandwich, China Town in San Francisco for Chinese food, or countless ice cream trips wherever we were to fulfill his never ending love of ice cream that he instilled in his kiddos. Lance created so many wonderful memories with his loving family. When planning family vacations, he would spend countless hours researching activities, sites to see, and local restaurants serving regional cuisine. He didn't settle for vacations to be filled with only tourist destinations and meals at chain restaurants.

Lance was a kind, wonderful, loving man and will be missed by all that knew him.

Lance was preceded in death by grandmother Mary Hall, half-brother Mike Petitt, sister Lara Elizabeth Petitt, grandfather Lenward Everett "Dude" Hall, half-sister Darla Stewart, grandmother Gracie Haney, half-sister Teresa Ethridge, stepfather Ron Duerksen, uncle Ronnie Petitt.
