Obituary

Ruby Irene Hutson was born on June 9, 1915 in Lowery, OK. Ruby Irene is the second of 13 children born to Charlie Earl Jackson and Charlotte Galilee Jackson. She played basketball and graduated from Oaks High School. Ruby Irene then moved to Antlers, OK where she and her husband Chester Burton Almond gave birth to their two children James Burton and Janice Irene Almond. After a brief time in California, she and her two children moved back to Oaks, OK.

In Oaks, Ruby Irene worked at the Oaks Indian Mission for Children while also raising her two children. Later, she met Marvin Lee Hutson and married him in 1954. Not long after their marriage, Ruby Irene worked full-time at a hosiery factory in Siloam Springs, AR and supported Marvin thru college at Northeastern State University. After his graduation, she began studies at Northeastern State University where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She taught elementary school in California, Kansas and Catoosa, OK.

Ruby Irene enjoyed "making music" by ear playing several instruments including the fiddle, guitar, and piano. She loved bluegrass music and enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO. Even into her 100s, her family enjoyed listening to her during the holidays playing Christmas songs on the piano. She also enjoyed caring for her many plants and tending to her garden as well as rooting for her favorite basketball team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When Ruby Irene turned 100, she was proud to become a member of the Centennial Club, recognized by the Cherokee Nation, recognized by the town of Catoosa, OK with a Proclamation, and most recently became an honorary member of a Broken Arrow biker gang who nicknamed her "Red Ruby - Biker Babe."

Ruby Irene is preceded in death by Marvin Lee Hutson. She is survived by her youngest sister, Reva Haynie of Sealy, TX, son James Burton Almond and daughter-in-law Twalla Faye, of Catoosa, OK, and daughter Janice Irene Jones of Sandy, UT. She has has five grandchildren, Sherry Kischer, April Wilson, Anthony Jones, Jamie Taylor, and Dana Haueter, 11 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, August 31 at 11:00am at Southlawn Chapel at Moore Funeral Homes, 9350 East 51st, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
