Obituary

Rudy Gorishek was born February 21, 1922 in La Salle, Illinois, to Joseph Gorishek and Mary Brinovic from Artice, Slovenia. He passed from this life on the early morning of Saturday, December 23, 2017 in Tulsa, at the age of 95 yrs. Rudy graduated from high school in La Salle, Illinois at 17 years old and joined the Civilian Conservation Corp then progressed to the Army for 4 years. He was a Sergeant in the US Corp of Engineers and helped build the Alcan Highway in Alaska, then onto Europe. As a veteran of WWII, he survived the Battle of the Bulge.

After serving his country, he graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He then earned another degree in Petroleum Engineering at University of Oklahoma. He was honored in professional fraternities and as a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

He married the love of his life, Alice Jane Rushing of El Dorado, Arkansas on June 29, 1947. He worked for Alice-Sidney Oil Company and Pan Am Oil in El Dorado, where the family settled. He later moved to Bartlesville and Oklahoma City where he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 25 years before retiring in 1986. As head of "exploration and production", his work took him to projects in London, Africa, Norway, Germany, France, Holland, Italy and Nigeria.

Upon retirement from Phillips he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma...built a home and joined Asbury Methodist Church becoming active in their ministries, wrote and illustrated bible studies for various groups and classes. Rudy considered his family, including his sweet wife of 70 years, 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren to be his greatest accomplishment in life. His wisdom to others was, "work hard, never give up and trust God because we reap what we sow." He loved including family and friends in his favorite sports- hunting and fishing, and his hobbies- gardening and gourmet cooking. Rudy will be remembered as a man of his word, living out his strong faith and values, enjoying his family and the simple things of life. He was a true gentleman, kind, loving and always thinking of the other person before himself. He had a strong sense of provision for all of his children, siblings, nieces and nephews.

Rudy was predeceased by his brother, "Chub", and his sisters, Mary and Theresa. Rudy is survived by his wife, Alice Jane and his children: Millie, husband Mike; George, wife Kerrie Anne; and Mary Jane, husband Jonathan. His grandchildren are: Mark, wife Aly; Melissa, husband Rob; Lindsay, Brian; Ryan, wife Leigh; Natalie, husband Aaron.
