Ruth Betty Hensley was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 15, 1920 to Scott and Elsie Miller and went peacefully to the Lord on March 9, 2017 in Kaufman, Texas. Ruth graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1937 and was Miss Tulsa that year. After graduating, Ruth and her two sisters Mildred and Lynn traveled to Hollywood, CA and enjoyed success for several years performing as the Miller Sisters, singing with the big bands of that era. In 1940 Ruth met and later married John H. Hensley and made a home in San Francisco where she later gave birth to 2 sons, John and William. Returning to her hometown of Tulsa, Ruth worked for DX Sunray Oil Company and then went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where she became the first ever district manager of an all woman sales group. During that time she attended Tulsa University, getting her CLU insurance certification. Ruth went on to work as a sales manager for Southern Bell and then AT&T Communications Company, working in Denver, Tulsa, Dallas and San Francisco. She later retired from AT & T after a successful career. Never one to keep still, she was active in her church and always called Nogales Avenue Baptist in Tulsa her home even though she lived in many cities and countries over the years. She was known at Nogales for her wonderful voice and sang in the choir, often performing solos. Ruth had a never ending devotion to Jesus Christ her whole life. In addition to time spent with her family, Ruth loved to travel and toured both the Far East and the biblical areas of the Mideast and Europe. Her son William Scott Hensley, her sister Mildred Clarke and her brother Scott Miller preceded her in death.
