Obituary

Ruth Iola Morrow Butler, 88, passed away on December 25, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK. She was born April 16, 1927, in Creek County at the "old home place" near Pole Cat Creek between Bristow and Olive; she was the last of five children born to Willard and Pearl Morrow. While attending Olive High School, she met Guy Fraley Butler and they became sweethearts. In 1944, Guy was called to active duty in WWII. She remained in school to continue business training until her graduation in 1945. When Guy returned from war in 1946, on November 24, they drove to Sedan, KS, and married. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before Guy's death December 2, 2001.

Wherever Guy found work, Ruth worked in various accounting jobs. In 1948, Guy settled into the lumber business and in 1950 transferred to Tulsa where he retired from Mill Creek Lumber in 1985. Ruth worked outside the home until 1968.

Family was always important to Ruth, and by the early 1950's Ruth and her two sisters, June Young and Mabel Polk, and their families lived within a block of one another until construction of a new expressway forced all three families to move eastward in Tulsa. The three brothers-in-laws of the three sisters laughingly called their frequent get-togethers "brother-in-law meetings." Since Ruth and Guy had no children of their own, Ann and Barbara Polk and Joyce Young, their nieces, enjoyed a special extended family status.

Through the years, Ruth and Guy worshiped at Harvard Avenue Baptist Church and later Southwood Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed teaching women's Sunday school classes. Her later years have been in the fellowship of Memorial Baptist. Nieces, Joyce Young Raley and Barbara Polk Walton, continue to live in Tulsa and have included her in their families' activities, surrounding her with much love and care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy; her parents, Willard and Pearl Morrow; sisters and husbands, June and Glenn Young and Mabel and Quentin Polk; brothers and wives, Russell and Estelle Morrow, Everett and Elsie Morrow, and Claud and Lena Morrow. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation at Moore's Eastlawn Chapel, 1908 S. Memorial Dr. from 2:00-4:00 P.M., Sunday, January 3, 2016. A graveside service will be at Bristow City Cemetery, Monday, January 4, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Memorial gifts may be made to OMRF, and condolences sent care of Moore's Funeral Home.
