CLEMMONS, Ruth, completed her earthly journey Sunday, July 3, 2016. She was born November 19, 1920 to Harry and Pearl Dolen. Her family lived on an oil lease in Drumright, OK and her father was a driller for Sinclair Oil Co.
Ruth graduated from Drumright High School and then entered Oklahoma A&M College. There she met the love of her life, Jess Clemmons. When the depression started, Ruth left college after two years and reunited with Jess in Toledo, OH. They were married and found jobs working in an airplane factory.
Eventually Jess's number was pulled to enter the World War II Theatre. He went to Ft. Hood and Ruth returned to Tulsa to be a bookkeeper for an oil company. On the weekends, Ruth would take the train to Waco to see her husband until he was shipped out for Japan.
When Jess returned from Japan, Ruth again returned to school at TU. She obtained a Masters plus 60 hours toward a Doctorate in Mathematics. She taught school at Hale and Washington High Schools for 26 years. Ruth continued to teach math at TCC for another five years. She loved helping people and volunteered at St. Francis for 45 years. Ruth also volunteered for many years for the elderly and low-income families to do their taxes.
Ruth is survived by Karla Agnew and husband, Mike, Patti Brown and husband, Bill, a sister, Dorothy Koons, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her child, Rebecca; her husband, Jess; her two brothers, Kenneth and Ralph; and her sister, Marjorie. Visitation will be 4-8 P.M., Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK.
