Leora Ruth Johnson, 91, went to her heavenly home on September 10th, 2023.

Ruth was born to Thurl and Leo Blackburn in Council Bluffs, IA on January 11th, 1932. While attending Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX she met her best friend and soulmate, James "Jim" Johnson on a blind date. They quickly eloped on November 24th, 1950 and were married for an amazing 65 years.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Whether playing in the church or helping her grandchildren and students, music it filled her heart with joy. Jim and Ruth also loved to play cards with their friends. She would bake copious amounts of chocolate treats for these hours long events but they were secretly all for her.

Ruth was blessed with a loving family. Jim and Ruth raised their three children, Jim, Anita, and David, with patience, discipline, humility, and a lot of humor. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them in their Christian walk and to love all of Gods' children.


Ruth is survived by her daughter and son in-law Anita and Joe Koval; her daughter in-laws Melissa Johnson and Becky Johnson; her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Andrea, Bryan, Noah, Annabelle, Cooper, and Lily Orlowski, Jordan & Kelly Koval, Kristin, Ross, Peyton, and Parker Whelpley, Ashley, Daniel, Wesley, and Clare Hay, and Davis Johnson, and many other beloved family and friends. She will be greeted in heaven by her husband, James, her sons, Jim and David, and her parents.

Ruth will be laid to rest at Tulsa's Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral Service will be 2:30PM, Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
