Ruth Inez Johnson passed from this life on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the age of 88.
Ruth was born February 21, 1928 to Thomas R. and Hattie Elizabeth Jones in Blocker, Oklahoma. Hattie passed away when Ruth was 7 years old. In September, 1937, when Ruth was 9 years old, she moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma and lived in the Masonic Children's Home and graduated from Guthrie High School. After high school, Ruth moved to Tulsa to live with her sisters, Ida and Opal Jones. She went to Draughon's Business Institute and started attending Boston Avenue Methodist Church.
It was at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church that she met the love of her life, Paul H. Johnson. Paul and Ruth were married June 14, 1952. Paul and Ruth were blessed with two children, Jeff and Lisa.
Ruth was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout the years she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, the New Covenant Class at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, the Oil Capital Home Demonstration Club, and the Lion Tamers, made up of the wives of the Downtown Lions Club members. As an active member of these organizations, Ruth enjoyed hosting many events in her home. Paul and Ruth also loved to travel. Together they traveled to over 76 countries and made many new friends.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul H. Johnson, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Beth Johnson; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Mike Spear; grandchildren Paul and Hannah Johnson, and Michael, Karrie and Sarah Flud; as well as her sister-in-law, Shirley Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hattie Jones, three sisters, Opal, Ida, and Imogene, and four brothers, James, David, Thomas, and Arly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts in Ruth's memory to the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the Rose Chapel at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma. A private interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
