Ruth Elizabeth Logue Matlock, 97, died on August 5th at St. Simeon's
Episcopal Retirement home in Tulsa, OK. She leaves four children: Charles
R. Matlock III of Memphis, TN; Robert D. Matlock, of Sewanee, TN;
Rebecca F. Sloan of Memphis; and Mary and husband Joe Newman of Tulsa. Ruth
Matlock also had four grandsons and three granddaughters. Predeceasing
Ruth Matlock in 1985 was her husband, the Rev. Charles R. Matlock, Jr.,
who had been Associate Pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa.
Ruth was born on January 8th, 1917, in Waterbury, CT. Her parents,
Charles Samuel Logue and Mary Frances Woods, were immigrants from
Northern Ireland. In 1945, Ruth left her family and job, traveling solo via
freighter and Pan Am Clipper, to marry Charles in Liberia, West Africa. She
spent the next twenty-seven years in missionary service from Africa to the
Philippines.
During her time in the Philippines, she reopened and managed the Easter
School Weaving Room in Baguio, which had been closed during World War
II. She later worked for the U.S. Military in Manila. Upon returning to the
U.S., the Matlocks settled in Tulsa in 1973. Ruth worked for Williams Co.
and was active at Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a member of the
Vestry and Altar Guild.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Simeon's on Saturday,
August 9, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Iron
Gate or the Saint Simeon's Employees' Fund.

Saint Simeon's.
