Our precious mother, Ruth Silver, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Widow of Jack E. Silver, Sr. and mother of three children, Jack E. Silver, Jr., Jim Silver and Jana Zimmerman; she was 94 years old.
Ruth, whose full name was Astrid Isabella Ruth, was born to Olaf and Olga Olson on February 26, 1926. The first of five children, Ruth was sister to Grace, Eric, Mildred and Charles.
Married to Jack E. Silver at just 15 years of age, Ruth lovingly supported and cared for him until his death in 2013. Sadly, he died just two months before their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Ruth had a passion for writing and her poetry is a legacy that her children cherish. The following is a sample of one of her introspective pieces written in 1995.
SHADOWS
All summer at this windowpane,
Sunshine sprinkled down like rain.
Sparkling, glowing with delight,
Softly giving way to night.
But it is fall, how do I know?
I'm standing, watching shadows grow.
And years have gone, and years have come,
How thankful I am for the sum
Of all of them, but well I know,
I'm standing, watching shadows grow.
Mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of five, her affection and pride in her family was always among her favorite subjects. Mom loved sunshine and flowers and always kept a pitcher of sweet iced tea in the refrigerator.
Active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses until her death, Ruth shared her love of her God Jehovah with all who knew her. Knowing that she is safe in Jehovah's memory is a source of great comfort until we can see her again.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Olga Olson; her husband, Jack E Silver, Sr.; and her siblings, Eric Olson, Mildred Schlupe and Charles Olson.
Ruth is survived by her children, Jack (Sharon) Silver Jr., Jim (Denise) Silver and Jana (Larry) Zimmerman.
Her grandchildren, Julie Free, Matthew Silver, Jordan Donley, Christopher Zimmerman, Olivia Cody and Taylor Zimmerman. Great-grandchildren, Tanner and Mason Silver, Preslee, Porter and Copelyn Donley.
Ruth is also survived by her sister, Grace Silver and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held via Zoom on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
