Dr. Samuel Ewing Franklin, 68, of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 1977, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK, of a heart attack. He was born on Sunday, October 25, 1908, in Broken Arrow, OK, to Dr. Onis Franklin and Lena W. (Singleton) Franklin. Dr. Franklin was a prominent physician for many years, and practiced medicine in both Tulsa and Broken Arrow. He and his late father, Dr. Onis Franklin, established the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Broken Arrow. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Board in Surgery, the Oklahoma Surgical Society, and Phi Chi medical fraternity. Dr. Franklin graduated from Northwestern Medical School in Evanston, IL, in 1933, and interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. He later joined his father and practiced medicine in Tulsa. Dr. Franklin was proud to have served in the Medical Corps of the United States Army in the Pacific, and commanded hospital units for several months after the surrender of enemy troops, in WWII, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Cassady) Franklin, of the home; son, Samuel Harris Franklin of Tulsa, OK; mother, Mrs. Onis Franklin of Broken Arrow, OK; 5 grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends, coworkers and patients. He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Lucy (Franklin) Cluck; and his first wife, Ruby Olivia (Culbertson) Franklin.
