Obituary

Moore, Samuel H., 91, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Inverness Village, Tulsa, OK. He was born on January 28, 1927 at home east of Renfrow, OK to Eva (Bachman) and Houston Moore. He grew to adulthood in this community and graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1945. He received a degree in accounting from Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University) in January, 1951, and a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Tulsa in May, 1991.

Sam experienced great love and loss twice: he married Betty Jo (Renick) in 1951. Betty Jo died after a short illness in 1969. He married Mildred (Cullen) (Grigg) in 1970, and she preceded him in death in 2009.

Sam and Mildred began their real life Brady Bunch just months after the TV series began. We the surviving "children" were led by Sam's grace, tenacity, and gentle spirit. We delighted in his affection for OSU football and his skill at teaching us each to drive - although he claimed at least a few of us learned to drive by ear (Crash, Oops, Brake). We five "kids" will miss him greatly: David Grigg, Tulsa, Sally (Moore) Warrington, Tulsa, Nancy (Grigg) Hardman, St. Louis, MO, Samuel Moore III, New Brunswick, NJ, and Kevin Moore, Dallas, TX. He also is survived by five grandchildren: Jared and Dustan Grigg, Lily Hall, and Mark and Patrick Warrington. He was preceded in death by two brothers and is survived by a brother, Wayne Moore, South Haven, KS.

Sam served in the United States Army in 1945-1946, and did a tour in Korea between 1951-1953. Following his military service, Sam became a Certified Public Accountant and worked in public accounting from 1953-1962 in Oklahoma City and in Midland, TX. He was employed as manager of taxes by three companies listed on the NYSE from 1962-1977 in Midland, TX, Los Angeles, CA, and Tulsa, OK. From 1977-1986 he worked in the tax department of Getty/Texaco, Tulsa, OK.

Sam had an active retirement. In addition to returning to school for an advanced degree, he worked part-time at a local accounting firm, prepared tax returns for Community Action and AARP, delivered Meals on Wheels, traveled extensively, learned to play bridge, and read many books and periodicals. He was a faithful and active member of Harvard Avenue Christian Church for more than 40 years.
