Obituary

Sandy Russell, 82, formerly of Owasso, OK, passed peacefully into her Heavenly Father's arms at her residence, with her family by her side, on Friday, January 27, 2023. She was born in Dewey, OK, on Wednesday, January 15, 1941, to Marcel Lewis Vermeire and Frances Henryetta (Adams) Vermeire.

Sandy met the love of her life, John Arthur Russell, in 1983, at her Aunt and Uncle's house in Tulsa, OK, and he eventually won her heart, and they were married on Friday, August 31, 1984, at First Baptist Church, Dewey, OK, and they were happily married 38 years, sharing many adventures together, until he went to his Heavenly home, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Sandy and John were former members of First Baptist Church, Owasso, OK.

A servant, Sandy served in a way that her relationship and dependence on Christ was evident. She was exceptionally generous to others with her time, care and love, and valued her friendships and relationships with her family. To her family, Sandy was the kind, talented, persevering, and tenacious woman spoken of in Proverbs 31. Being a homemaker was a job she took great pride in. Sandy had a true gift for hospitality, and enjoyed cooking and serving, whether for every day, holidays, or special occasions, and she enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. She also enjoyed scrap booking, gardening, birdwatching, and taking trips to the Colorado Mountains and fishing with John.

Sandy is survived by her three brothers, Jack Vermeire, Frank Vermeire, and Tom Vermeire and wife, Dana, all of Dewey, OK; her sister, Linda F. Peske and husband, Herman, of Roseburg, OR; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; brother, Howard Vermeire: and her first husband, David Pranger.

We were privileged to have Sandy in our lives, and she will be greatly missed in the days ahead. There is no doubt that Sandy will be rewarded to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
