Sara Ruth Woodruff Earnhardt, 80, a long-time resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma died on June 14, 2016 after battling complications following surgery.
Born June 25, 1935 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to William Logan and Ruth (Kerr) Woodruff, she was the fourth of 5 children. Sara spent her childhood in Arkansas, except for a brief period in California in 1941, where she fell in love with the ocean.
Sara graduated from Fort Smith Senior High School in 1953, and attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following one summer of college, Sara went to teach at a one-room, 8-grade elementary school in Borger, Texas. Sara had a life-long love and gift for working with children.
On October 25, 1958, while working at Tri-State Insurance, she married Bill Earnhardt. Over the past 58 years, together they have been very active with the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Tulsa. Sara served as a head deaconess, Sabbath school superintendent, treasurer, assistant treasurer, junior leader, VBS leader and church secretary. She also dedicated time to Tulsa Adventist Academy as a Home & School leader, home room mother, substitute teacher and school board member.
Sara was also very active in her community supporting a number of charitable organizations and donating time to March of Dimes and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
Sara loved people, enjoyed planning parties and events, traveling and taking in new experiences, and to laugh, dance and tease. She loved her family with a passion and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, William Logan Woodruff and Ruth (Kerr) Woodruff Holzkamper; sister, Ellen (Woodruff) Mustoe of Brier, Washington and brother, John Woodruff of Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by her husband, Bill Earnhardt of the home; son, William Earnhardt of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Kathy Chandler and husband Steve of Apison, Tennessee; grandchildren, Katie (Chandler) Anderson and husband Kenny of Collegedale, Tennessee and Hannah Chandler of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sisters, Mary (Woodruff) Gill of Gentry, Arkansas, Margaret (Woodruff) Carver and husband Lloyd of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a step-brother, Tim Holzkamper of Savanna, GA; sister-in-laws, Marion Woodruff of Kansas City, Missouri, and Joyce Baker and husband Joe of Kimberling City, Missouri, along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Service is on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. both at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st St. Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.
