Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth Adams died December 6, 2013 in Zimbabwe, East Africa.

Daughter of Roger L. and Jan (Webster) Adams, Sarah was born May 18, 1981 in Tulsa, OK. She graduated in 1999 from Holland Hall. She was awarded the Pat Morris Award, given to the graduating senior who most nearly approaches the school ideal of honor, loyalty and courtesy and who has done the most to enhance the life of the school. She played varsity field hockey for the University of Richmond Spiders, and earned her BA in Sociology there in 2003.

Upon graduation, Sarah returned to Holland Hall to serve as the Head Field Hockey Coach. While there, she organized student summer trips to Tanzania to work in an orphanage and developed an immediate love of the culture of East Africa. In 2009 she answered the call to do mission work for SIM Malawi, whose purpose includes ministering to those affected by the AIDS epidemic. Three years later, Sarah began a partnership with Young Life, where she mentored teenagers while caring for the poor. She helped cast a vision, and with the future leaders of Malawi, provided an environment for serving others. Wherever Sarah went, she made a difference.

In 2012 Sarah received the Young Alumni Achievement Award from Holland Hall. The honor recognizes a graduate from the last 15 years who has made a significant mark on his or her university or community and excels in their profession or pursuit of education.

In addition to her parents, Sarah is survived by her sisters, Laura Christine Adams and Andi Noland Neaves and her husband, Todd, and nieces Hillary, Megan and Rachel Neaves. She is also survived by her grandparents, Joyce and Bob Schober and Alice Adams; her uncles, Jack Webster, Buddy Adams, and Bob Adams; and her aunt, Kay Hammons. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, ?Daddy Bill? Adams; and her cousin, Beth Hammons.

Sarah?s life was short, but she spent each day doing what she loved, among the people she loved, in a place she loved, and left her imprint on countless lives. Her smile will forever be remembered.

A celebration of Sarah?s life will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013, 4:00 p.m. in the Mason Chapel, Asbury United Methodist Church, 6767 S. Mingo Road, Tulsa.
