Scott Allen Goodpaster passed away on May 6 in Tulsa, after a brief illness. Born on September 3, 1960 in Wichita to parents Charles and Gloria Goodpaster. Shortly after, they, along with his older sister Julie, moved to Tulsa, where Scott Would spend the majority of his years.
Scott attended Thomas Edison High School, where he was an accomplished member of the swim team and built a close-knit group of friends who would be by his side until his last days. He later attended Oklahoma State University and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa. Scott then ventured to our nation's capital, where for years he proudly served as a patent attorney for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Scott eventually returned to Tulsa, where he began dedicating much of his time to the community. He was involved with the Parish Church of St. Jerome and Reading Partners Tulsa, where he provided literacy tutoring to K-5 students. Scott also cultivated a serious passion for gardening. He was a member of Tulsa Master Gardeners, a volunteer at the Teaching Garden at Woodland Park, and spent countless hours tending lovingly to his home garden.
Scott was an active member and champion of the Tulsa arts community and other causes, a regular at St. John's gym, and a frequent flyer at estate sales (where he always found the best deals on antique furniture). His talent for painting was widely recognized. He had an incredible eye for capturing the flowers and landscapes he observed in his daily life, and his work was showcased on the Tulsa Oktoberfest 2025 poster, at MayFest, as well as other local shows. Scott loved the "old-lady" singers from the 1930's- 60's, like Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey. He was also very fond of Tulsa history and architecture, and an avid reader and writer.
Scott will be most remembered for his contributions to his community, his passion for the arts, his deep commitment to seeking and sharing knowledge, and for his innate ability to love and engage each person with intention-devoid of judgement.
Scott is survived by his sister Julie Collins (Ian) of Sonoma, CA, his niece Holly Pearson (Mitchell) of Folsom, CA, nephew Sean Pearson of New York, NY, and his two rescue dogs Charlie and Rose, who meant the world to him.
We will miss him dearly.
Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 15, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery, 9101 S. Harvard Ave. Reception to follow at Wild Fork, Utica Square, between 1:00- 4:00 P.M.
