S. Fred Isaacs

Sherrill Frederick Isaacs, known to family and friends as Fred Isaacs, passed away on the morning of May 11, 2018. He was born on August 24, 1937 to Fred Robert and Edith Hood Isaacs of Miller, Mo. He Graduated High School as the Class Valedictorian in 1955 and entered Rolla School Mines in Missouri where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Fred joined the Navy and became a Naval Aviator. His flight training took place in Pensacola, FL where he met his wife of 57 years, Patricia Joan Myers. Upon completion of flight school, he flew the infamous F8-U Crusader, the Navy's first Supersonic fighter/interceptor. He was deployed many times over his naval career. His most notable assignments were Landing Signaling Officer and legal officer for squadron VF51 under the command of Vice Admiral J. B. Stockdale. He was discharged from the Navy and returned to the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he earned his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering. Fred began his civilian career when he first started working for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK as a SCADA Engineer. As he continued his career in the petroleum industry, in 1970, he accepted the position as a pipeline engineer for the newly formed Fortune 500 Company, Mapco, Inc. Over the next 20 years in the industry he was involved in many pipeline expansion projects. He was president of Mid America Pipeline Company, President of the Seminole Pipeline Company and Executive Vice President of Mapco, Inc. Fred retired in 1991 and then pursued several business opportunities. These included the development of two propane companies, RB's Gas of Asheville, NC, and Reliable Propane of Tulsa, OK. His lifetime accomplishments included the Distinguished Fellow Award from the University of Missouri, serving on the Board of Directors for Willbros Engineering Group and the Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital. During his retirement, he enjoyed the fellowship of Christ United Methodist Church where he volunteered as a media technician filming sermons on Sundays. He also took great pleasure in traveling with his wife and spending time on Pensacola Beach, FL, with his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia Isaacs of Tulsa, their daughters, Marcia Magann of LIttle Rock, AR, April Knutson of Bellingham, WA, Jennifer White of Denver, CO, and their only son, Fred Isaacs, Jr. of Tulsa, OK. Sabra Hoenshell, his sister, resides in Aurora, MO.
