Obituary

Shane Michael Cornell passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on January 1, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shane was born in San Diego, California on August 24, 1941. He grew up as a military son where his father, the late Kenneth W. Cornell, was an officer in the U.S. Army. Shane attended 11 different schools between elementary and high school including schools in California, Florida, North Carolina, Germany, and France, where he graduated High School from Verdun High School in Verdun, France in 1959. Shane graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1963 with a BS degree in Mathematics and was a member of the Signa Nu Fraternity.

Shane married Margaret (Maggie) Will in 1963 in Tulsa, OK. Shane joined IBM Corporation in 1963 as a Systems Engineer in Tulsa. He and his wife Maggie were transferred to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1964 and Poughkeepsie, New York in 1969, before returning to Tulsa in 1972. Shane loved working for IBM and received many awards during his career. He retired from IBM after 30 years of service in 1993 as a Consulting Marketing Representative.

Shane had a passion for watching football and other sporting events, and spent many years attending the University of Tulsa football and basketball games. Shane also loved spending time with his boys coaching soccer, hunting, fishing, and watching tennis. Shane's passion of football carried over to him managing a football pool at his favorite local establishment.

Shane was an active member of Harvard Avenue Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Challenger Sunday School Class. Shane was a long-time coin collector and dealer. He served as Secretary/Treasurer and newsletter editor for the Oklahoma Numismatic Association (ONA) for many years. He was the Chairman for the ONA's coin shows in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. In addition to his love for coins, Shane loved to travel, read, and was always looking for that great sudoku puzzle to solve.

Shane is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maggie, two sons Steve (Amy) of Colleyville, TX and Chuck (Allie) of Denver, CO, and two granddaughters Cassidy and Reilly.

A private memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 5th at Harvard Avenue Christian Church and Grace Hospice.
