Shannan Therese Orr (nee' Thmpson) entered into rest June 11, 2020 at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, following a brief illness.
Shannan was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa on June 17, 1962, to Julie Dill (Ernie) and Eddie Thompson. She was the eldest of four siblings: Mike Thompson, Pat Thompson (Ondine Dannler), and Nicki Wilson (Martin).
From the youngest age, she displayed a remarkable gift for calmly assessing what needed to be done, then bravely doing what she knew to be the next right thing. This made her a second mother of sorts to her younger siblings, particularly her brothers, whose antics she saved them from much more than once. In later life, she would call this "being bossy"; in truth, she just always seemed to have the better ideas.
Though Shannan's formal education ended as salutatorian of her Manitou Springs High School class of 1980, she had a facile intellect and insatiable curiosity that kept her learning throughout her life. An elective class in high school that she took as a break from her heavy academic load revealed a profound artistic ability she didn't know she had, and she produced beautiful art, including murals for many churches, businesses, ankd individuals.
Her more than 30 year marriage to Michael Orr blessed her with two daughters: Rachel Ashby and Rebekah Cimino (Chris), and two grandchildren: Isaac Cimino and Austen Ashby. One of Shannan's great joys was spending time with her grandchildren. Her relentless love and fierce devotion was a constant in her family's life. Rachel and Rebekah's tender care of their mother in her last days was a source of comfort to Shannan and a source of immense pride and gratitude for the rest of the family.
Shannan gave her life to Christ in high school, and her faith was integral to her identity. Her deep examination of her faith eventually led her to author two books for adults: Refocus and Shameless, one children's book: God Always Loves You, as well as Sunday School curriculum. As a member of Healing Grace Church she found her second home. With Women of Grace ministries, she taught the word of God in churches across the country and across the world.
Shannan is survived by her parents, siblings, children and grandchildren, in-laws, in-laws that remained family beyond marriage, and a worldwide circle of friends whose unceasing prayers for her moved and humbled her in her last weeks among us.
A celebration of Shannan's life and ascension will be held Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 4:00 pm Central Time, at Healing Grace Church, 4818 E 80th St, Tulsa, OK.
