Sharon L. Spence of Tulsa, OK, loving wife and mother, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the age of 69.
Sharon Elaine was born February 4th, 1952, in Okmulgee, OK, to Jack and Velma Lovett. Having moved to Tulsa with her family at the age of three, Sharon attended Tulsa Public Schools as well as the University of Tulsa, where she earned a dual degree in elementary and early childhood education in 1973. Sharon spent her career as an educator, teaching in the Tulsa Public School system for 11 years before becoming a stay-at-home mother, and later tutored in reading sufficiency. On March 19, 1983, Sharon married Jeffrey Spence and together, they raised David Charles and Sarah Kathryn.
Sharon was most passionate about two things: teaching elementary school children to read and raising her children in the Word of God. She spent many years homeschooling David and Sarah, making sure they were prepared, both educationally and spiritually, to be contributing members of their communities. Sharon and Jeff worked diligently and patiently to ensure both their children graduated from college and built productive careers, which they did. For hobbies, Sharon enjoyed oil painting, traveling with Jeff and their friends, and cooking, the latter of which made her famous throughout her extended family. Her signature dish, taught to her by her mother, was fried okra, which was second to none. Sharon spent every morning reading her Bible and praying, trusting that God had a plan for her life and family. She was known to her friends, family, and community for her merciful and compassionate spirit, her rock-solid faith in Jesus, and her boundless love for her children.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Velma. She is survived by her husband Jeff, her two children, David and Sarah, and two grandsons, Samuel and Isaac. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Burton, nieces Jayme Arnold and Amanda Reynolds, and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to Carbondale Assembly of God church in her honor.
