Obituary

Sharon Kathleen Vaughan, 69, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Saturday, September 19, at Hillcrest, after a two year courageous battle, to survive two open heart surgeries and partial paralysis.

Her funeral service will be Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 2:00pm at Moore Funeral Home with pastor, Chris Thompson, officiating. Internment will immediately follow the service.

Sharon Vaughan was born in Clinton, IA on July 27, 1951, the first of a set of twins, to Vinson and Donna Carpenter. They divorced. After two years in several foster homes, the twins were adopted by Delbert and Helen Thomsen who always told them they were "chosen".

Sharon attended Catholic schools in Clinton, IA, Our Lady of Angels Academy, St. Irenaeus Parochial grade school and graduated from Mt. St. Clare Academy in 1969. Sharon maintained contact with many of her classmates through the years.

Sharon graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Davenport, IA in 1972. She worked as a charge nurse at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA., as the Director of Nursing at the Fort Worth Clinic, Fort Worth, TX, and as a nurse in the neurology department at the Rockford Clinic, Rockford, IL. Sharon moved to Tulsa in 2000, where she worked as a home health nurse and finished her career as a devoted hospice nurse.

Sharon was a Cub Scout leader when her sons were young. She enjoyed scrapbooking and was a member of the Bacchus Babes Wine Club of Tulsa. Sharon enjoyed traveling to Germany, Ireland, Italy, Czechoslovakia and many locales in the United States with her husband, family and friends.

Sharon married the love of her life, Warren Vaughan, in Fort Worth, TX, March 19, 1983. They celebrated 37 years of marriage. They have four children, Christopher and Brendan of Tulsa, Katy of Des Moines, IA and Scott of Camden, NC.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Warren Vaughan and her sons, Christopher Vaughan and Brendan (D. J. Fulk) Vaughan all of Tulsa and Katy Houlahan, Des Moines, IA and Scott Vaughan, Camden, NC, her twin sister, Karen (James) Tate of Clinton, IA, and sister Lynda Carpenter Griffith of Marion, IL, two half sisters, Lou Ann Stahl (Al Petersen) Brooklyn Park, MN, Sandra Carpenter (Chris) Bayer of New Lenox, IL. Three half brothers, Michael (Julie) Carpenter, Clinton, IA, Steve Carpenter, Alliance NE, and Michael (Mary) Grinnall, Clinton, IA, and grandchildren Owen, Alex and Tyler of Virginia Beach, VA and many nieces and nephews. She shared a special bond with her niece Kristin (Paul) Stuart of Spring, TX. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Larry Carpenter, Clinton, IA.

The family would like to acknowledge her dear friends, the family referred to as her "dream team", that were by her side throughout her illness, Denise, Gail, Bonnie, Debbie, and especially Ione and Bobby. Their kindnesses will never be forgotten.

Viewing will be Thursday, September 24, 2020 starting at 9am till 1pm. Funeral services will be 2pm, Thursday, September 24, 2020. Both will be at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E 51st, Tulsa, OK. (918)663-2233
