Sherry was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas on July 29, 1954; daughter of Archie Ray Snodgrass and Betty Parmley. She passed from this life on March 10, 2019. On January 2, 1981 she became the bride of Gary Walkabout and they shared a remarkable life together.
She was preceded by her parents and a sister, Susan Loffer. Sherry is survived by her husband, Gary; brother, Dr. Blane Snodgrass; nephew, Eddie Loffer; aunt and uncle, Nancy and Dewayne Gibson; and her beloved, faithful and spoiled-rotten boxer "Tony".
Sherry, a believer of the Christian faith, was retired at the time of her passing, dealing with a two year long, courageous battle against glioblastoma cancer. She never gave in and never surrendered to this horrific disease; maintaining her spirit and her poise, fighting all the way to the very end.
Sherry received her primary education in Pryor, Oklahoma. Then she returned to school to attend the University of Tulsa earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000. She then continued to complete her Juris Doctorate degree in 2006 from the University of Tulsa College of Law and was admitted to the State of Oklahoma Bar on September 26, 2006.
Early in her career at Agrico Chemical, Sherry was an administrative assistant, working with purchasing agent John Carpenter. She then moved to a position as the executive assistant for Ken Sloan, the general council for Williams Brothers Engineering Company.
She then traveled on to the University of Tulsa College of Law to serve as administrative assistant to the Dean of the school, Martin Belskey. She later became director of the University's para-legal program.
Sherry was last employed by the Development Company of Ed Schmerhorn/John Davis; a multi-facetted position that she truly enjoyed for the remainder of her career.
Sherry was an active volunteer for Tulsa Legal Aid, serving for impoverished women. She was also a contributor to numerous and varied charitable organizations. One organization is the "Sip for Sight"; Sherry was a board member and very involved in the fundraising for Vizavance (formerly known as Prevent Blindness Oklahoma). The donated funds are used to purchase nd maintain vision screening equipment to provide vision screenings in various public school systems.
She also did pro-bono legal work for numerous friends from time to time that needed her assistance and would always make herself available when a request for help came her way.
Sherry loved life and had fun living it. Sharing the experiences with her husband, Gary, she developed a love of bowling, posting numerous 200 games and some 600 series as well as becoming a much better than average bass fishing enthusiast. She also enjoyed attending pro football and baseball outings and sharing Gary's passion for auto racing. She attended the Indianapolis 500, the Formula One Grand Prix of Indianapolis, the Talladega 500 Nascar event. Sherry also enjoyed watching her cousin Darrell race at the local speedway during the 1980's
Sherry did enjoy an eclectic array of hobbies and interests; enjoying musicians such as The Eagles, AC/DC and John Fogerty. However, traveling the world was her passion. Her favorite city to visit was Paris, France, getting to make the journey twice. She enjoyed the beautiful architecture, dining in the Eiffel Tower, having dinner while cruising the River Seine through the City of Lights proved to be magical. Among her favorite sights was the Musee d' Orsay, home to the world's greatest collection of Impressionist art. Among the pieces she loved viewing were the works of Van Gough, Manet, Monet, Cassatt, Renoir and Morisot.
Her other worldwide travels included visits to Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. Sherry also saw the magnificent, rugged landscapes during her cruise of Alaska and immersing herself with three excursions to the Hawaiian Islands, commenting occasionally as living there would be a wonderful dream.
Travels also included the major cities of the United States with stops in Los Angeles, CA; Portland, OR; the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area along with Houston and Dallas, TX. Her very favorite was New York City with it's museums, shows and sights never grew stale with her. She even indulged Gary's "young boy's dream" by visiting Yankee Stadium at her insistence.
Sherry made the most of her life; her caring for others, her wonderful gentle personality traits made it easy to welcome her friendship into one's life. She enjoyed sharing companionship with others, and the effect she had in other people's lives is evident with the tributes being posted to her Facebook page that are now coming in from those who had the privilege of knowing her is self-evident of the kind soul she was. Her passing has left a void that now will be filled with the wonderful memories from everyone who knew her and will prove time and time again to be comfort to all, especially for her best friend, Gary.
There will be a Memorial Visitation Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 3pm to 8pm at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel.
