Obituary
Shirley grew up in Texas City having a happy childhood during the depression years. She graduated from high school, married Jim Luhning in 1946 and started working in the lab at Monsanto where she survived the Texas City explosion in 1947. She then had three children while living in Dickinson. Their marriage ended in 1964, and then she met the love of her life, Art Hasson.
She and Art married and blended their families into one on August 26, 1966, and celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. They moved their family from Texas City to Tulsa in 1967 so Art could attend Spartan School of Aviation. They intended to move back to Texas but fell in love with the Tulsa area and stayed here. Her daughter, Deven, always said that "where her Mama was planted, she bloomed". And she did "bloom" in her new home in Oklahoma. Shirley worked for many years at Oklahoma Natural Gas, serving as a customer service supervisor at her retirement.
Shirley had her private pilot rating and enjoyed years of flying their Cessna Skylark. She also enjoyed fishing, boating, playing Spades with her card group, traveling in their RV and spending time with her family and friends.
She and Art were active members of Christview and Cedar Ridge Christian churches in Tulsa and when they moved to Oologah in 2005 they moved to their present church home at First Church in Owasso.
Shirley was predeceased in death by her parents B.C. (Dick) Hunter and Berna Dean Hunter and sister, Dolly Camp and brother, Lee Fegette. She is survived by her husband Art and children Jim Luhning, Deven Kiser and her husband John, Michael Hasson and his wife Deborah, Kathleen Ware, and Ken Luhning and his wife Susan, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her sister, Jeaninne Gainer and brother, Dick Hunter.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in honor of Shirley's life to the Missions program at First Church in Owasso.
