Obituary

Our dear Aunt Shirley went home to be with her Savior and Lord on March 12, 2023. An enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation and descendent of the Burris bloodline, Shirley was quite proud of her Chickasaw heritage and spoke often of her Native American roots. Shirley was 88 years old.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Rudolph, World War II veteran and POW; her parents, Raymond and Christine Haley; and sister, Claudia Gail Stumpf. Shirley is survived by two cousins Kuhlaya Kay Burris, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and Towanna Blair and husband B.C. Blair, III, Texas. Shirley also leaves behind 3 nieces Barbara Sterrenberg and husband, Tim of Broken Arrow; Sandra Terry and husband Jim of Norman Oklahoma; Paula Kilgore and husband Kyle of Slaughterville, Oklahoma; and 2 nephews, Chris Redman and wife Teresa of Minnetrista, Minnesota, and Casey Redman and wife Connie of Tribbey, Oklahoma. Additionally, Shirley had 26 grand nieces and nephews along with 26 great-grand nieces and nephews.

Born Shirley Jean Haley, on March 5, 1935, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Raymond and Christine Haley where her father was a superintendent for the county water department following World War II. Shirley and her sister Claudia remained in Tishomingo until her high school graduation and then moved to Tulsa, where she resided the remainder of her life. Shirley worked for Spartan Aircraft in the finance division and attended college at Tulsa University. Both parents were worked for Douglas Aircraft Company. In 1963 Shirley met Donald Rudolph and was married September 4, 1964. Shirley and Don purchased a home in Tulsa in 1968, where Don worked as a jet engine mechanic for American Airlines until retirement.

Although Shirley and Don had no children, she was fond of and loved her nieces and nephews. This included opening her home for a short period to a few of them for a couple of years and treating them as her own. Shirley loved life and could never get enough of visiting and laughing with family. She had a contagious sense of humor and sharp wit; loved music, gardening and yardwork, feeding birds and was an avid reader with a keen memory and knowledge of history.
