Shirley Anne Skinner, 74, of Tulsa, OK, passed into her heavenly home on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025.
Shirley was born in Fort Worth, TX, on December 14, 1951 and moved to Tulsa with her family as a child. She was the second child of Louise "Lou" and William "Bill" Skinner. She had one sibling, her sister Nancy, who died in 2018. She is survived by extended family in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Shirley was a scholar. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas and she was both a student and a professor at the University of Tulsa. She earned a master's degree and a certificate in the specialty of educating the deaf and hard of hearing.
Her passion was to help guide deaf children find their way in life. She was a teacher and director at schools for the deaf in Florida and Riverside, California. She was also a counselor for Union Public Schools. Her sunny disposition, optimistic attitude, and advanced education helped many children in need.
Shirley had attended Boston Ave. United Methodist Church since childhood, she sang in the high school choir there and became a member in 1968. She loved to spend time with her sister and friends at Nancy's Grand Lake cabin. She loved travel and shopping and had many opportunities to enjoy both in the U.S. and abroad.
Shirley prioritized family. While never having had children of her own, she served as a caregiver first to her father, then to her mother, and finally to her sister. She will rest with her family at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Moore Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at
