Sondra Jeanne Horgen passed Saturday, July 11th surrounded by family after a short battle with brain cancer. She was born at St. John's hospital in Tulsa on October 10th 1940, to Octa Belle and Nicholas Lewis Bruce Sapora. She grew up in Tulsa and in Houston moving back and forth several times. She was active and enjoyed dancing, especially tap and ballet. She graduated from Aldine high school in Houston and went on to attend the University of Illinois where she was a member of the phi mu sorority and majored in recreation. There she met Orlin Dean Horgen and the two were married on September 9th of 1961 and started their home in Champagne. While there, they welcomed Julie Lynn and then Bruce Dean. In 1966, the family moved to Northwood Iowa and grew welcoming Cynthia Jeanne and then Christopher Lynn. In 1970 the family moved to Tulsa where Orlin began work with Silvey Company Insurance and Sondra began work with Hertz. The family began attending and were very active at First Lutheran Church where Sondra started and was the director of their daycare center utilizing her organizational and recreation skills to make positive impacts on the young. Sondra continued her involvement with education by becoming the secretary for the directors of Theatre, Art and Music for the Tulsa Public Schools. She continued with the schools until her retirement. Her husband Orlin died in 1987 of a long battle with cancer. She struggled with his loss and with being alone. She moved to Dallas to be closer to her daughter, Julie. She then moved to California with Julie and lived there until 2012 when they both moved back to Tulsa.

Sondra dedicated her life to her family, encouraging growth and independence in all of her children. She was dedicated to the education and wellbeing of all children. Her house was always welcoming to her children's friends and was normally the hub of all activity. She had a great appreciation for music, the arts, and had a sense of humor that lasted until the end.

She is survived by her children, Julie of Tulsa, Bruce and wife Michelle of Tulsa, Cindy McDonald of Tulsa, and Chris and wife Beverly of Wichita Falls, Texas, two nieces, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
