Obituary

Archbishop Dr. Stephen Wayne Moore M.A., M.S, DRE, D-Min. (Candidate), beloved father, brother, and son was born February 16th, 1948 to Helen and Wayne Moore in Adrian, Michigan. Departing to his eternal home on April 28th, 2023, he is preceded in death by his son Stephen Jesse Moore. Steve is survived by his daughter Angela Hurley, son James Moore, and grand children Julian and Jade Hurley, Samuel and Hannah Moore, and Jenna Moore, as well as his sisters Kay Crone and Sherry Renner.

As a freshman at the age of 14, Steve tested 1 point away from MENSA, but didn't care for school and got a fake ID and began playing bass guitar. By 15, he was a professional musician, playing the Detroit music scene on stage with famous groups including The Temptations. His musical talent took him to Nashville where he did session work with Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, The Home Steaders, Hank Williams Band, and he toured with Jimmy Dickens. He has been on the stage at the Grand Ol Opry multiple times and toured with the Opry singers and Charlie Daniels all over the country. He also played at RCA Studio Sessions in Nashville, mainly enjoying playing the blues, rock and roll, Motown, and blue grass. He stood out as the only white dude in the band often times, and even sat in for the bass player with Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, and Santana. He started bands when home hanging around, and didn't particularly like playing country music but would play it, preferring blues. Steve toured the northern states with Grand Ol Opry country singers and then toured the south with the all black blues bands.

In January of 1967, Steve volunteered for the US Army infantry during the Vietnam war. He fought for our country during perhaps one of the most politically divisive times in US history and militarily dangerous times in Vietnam during the TET Offensive in 1968. There, on numerous occasions, God protected and preserved him when many of his friends around him didn't make it. After 11 months and 21 days, his platoon, the 4th battalion of the 46th infantry, went to Ft Hood and he was released, honorably discharged in 1969.

Soon after, he and some friends went to Mexico and ended up in prison with dysentery. Miraculously again, he was on the verge of death and God healed him. He knew an attorney just by the spirit of the lord who was able to help him, and he bribed a guard and was released.

In March 1972, Steve had a visitation from God where he saw dark figure walking towards smoking pit. He knew that figure was him and he had to serve the Lord and come 100%. So, in the summer of 1975, Steve went into full time ministry. God miraculously provided the whole time and preserved his life on multiple occasions . After Bible school, he pastored a church in the Catskill Mountains in New York. He then held large crusade meetings in Philippines, India, and in many locations in Africa where thousands came to know Christ and were completely healed as he prayed for the sick, blind, deaf and those with various afflictions. He was given the honor of first white bishop in the Church of God in Christ in Africa.

Residing in Spokane, Washington he continued to use his musical talents to play guitar for the Gospel Community Mass Choir. A life long scholar, he also acquired two doctorates, Doctor of Ministry (candidate) and Doctor of Religious Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude (highest honors). In addition, he also trained horses, was a self defense teacher, and a successful businessman. In his later years, he continued to enjoy roping, trail riding, and hunting in the mountains on his horses, riding his motorcycles, restoring Mopar muscle cars, and fishing with his sons and grandsons.

Known for his wisdom and variety of giftings, Stephen's life's greatest accomplishment may very well be the impact and powerful way he directly changed and uplifted those around him through personal ministry. His ability to hear from the Lord and give whether of the spirit of the Lord or monetarily was notable. He was known for his generosity and would bless others with cars, food, gifts or whatever was in his heart to give. The world is a better place due to his fervency to please the Lord and we rejoice with him as he receives his reward in heaven with our savior Jesus Christ.
