Obituary

Steve Calvin peacefully went to Heaven on September 8, 2024, surrounded by the love and presence of his family. It brings great comfort to know that Steve was greeted in Heaven not only by his Heavenly Father, but also by his son Jeff, his father John, his grandmother Harriet, and his father-in-law Jim.
Steve was born on May 18, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ann and John Calvin. He grew up in Houston alongside his brother Scott, who is two years older. Steve's love for the outdoors was fostered in his childhood, particularly his passion for fishing and hunting. He also developed a lifelong love for sports, especially basketball, which he played for his high school team.
Among Steve's fondest childhood memories were his family trips to the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, Texas. As an adult, he cherished continuing this tradition with his own family, particularly during Thanksgiving, when the entire extended family would gather.
Steve graduated from Houston Memorial High School in 1982 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Northeastern State University. He embarked on a successful career in management, beginning at Norwest Financial in 1988. Over the years, Steve served as the Area General Manager of Loomis, Fargo & Co., the Owner and President of Calvin Industries, and most recently, the Operations Manager at Pipeline Equipment, Inc.
In 1990, Steve married the love of his life, Sandi. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising Danielle, Jeff, and later welcoming their son Baylor in 1997. Steve embraced fatherhood with joy and dedication. He coached cross country and track for Jeff and was the head coach for all of Baylor's youth sports teams. While he did not teach Danielle how to dance, he proudly attended all of her dance recitals! In 2016, Steve received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Coaching Youth Sports from Holland Hall, Baylor's school, recognizing his generous contributions to the athletic program. This award held a special place in Steve's heart and was one of his proudest accomplishments.
Steve was very proud of his Cherokee heritage. He spent countless hours poring over genealogy records to trace his ancestry. Because of his tireless work, his son, his brother, and his brother's children were all able to be listed as members of the Cherokee Nation, a legacy that meant the world to him.
Steve and Sandi shared a love for travel, creating countless memories with family and friends. They enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado, relaxing on the beaches of Florida, Mexico, the Bahamas, and Hawaii, and exploring Europe, including France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Monaco. However, Steve's favorite destination was always the British Virgin Islands.
Steve was a protector, caregiver, and fiercely determined in all he did. Family meant everything to Steve, and he cherished every moment spent together. His greatest joy was being with his loved ones, and he was a constant source of love and support for them.
Steve was a man of deep faith, confidently secure in his relationship with Christ. He loved attending church, participating in Bible studies, and was constantly seeking to grow in his spiritual knowledge.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, John Calvin; his father-in-law, Jim Maske; and his son, Jeff Martin. He is survived by his wife, Sandi Calvin; children, Danielle Martin, and Baylor Calvin; mother, Ann Maske; brother, Scott Calvin (Susie); sister-in-law, Wendy Cash (Cris); and nieces and nephews, Trevor Calvin (Jillian), Madeleine Calvin Brown (Scott), James Cash, Cooper Cash, and Carly Cash.
Steve's legacy of love, faith, dedication to family, and pride in his heritage will be cherished forever by all who knew him.
Because of Steve's passion and dedication to kids' sports, for those who wish to donate, a fund is being established at Prosperity Bank in Steve's memory to provide opportunity and sports equipment to children in need (Steve Calvin Memorial Fund).
Memorial Services will be 1:00PM Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Asbury Church, 6767 South Mingo Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
