Sue Carol Huddleston, resident of Ponca City, and formerly of Tulsa, died Friday, January 8, 2016, in her home surrounded by her family. She was 90.
Sue was born to Jesse Franklin Green and Ruby Delores Oberlender Green on October 30, 1925, in Louisville, Alabama. Her family moved to Cleo Springs, Oklahoma, where she lived for several years. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1943. She attended the University of Tulsa for one semester. She worked for Skelly Oil Company and Warren Petroleum Corporation. While working at Skelly, Sue met Stanley Huddleston at the fifth floor Coke machine. Nine months later, on September 22, 1951, they married at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they had two children.
A faithful Christian, Sue was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulsa. She was active in WMU and attended Bible study groups. She was also a member of the Woodland View Garden Club. She loved flowers and tending to her flower beds. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. Sue also enjoyed traveling. She made trips to Hawaii, Scotland, Ireland, England, Sweden, France, Canada, and Austria.
Sue and Stanley's first child, Steven Gregg Huddleston, was born on November 10, 1956. Soon after, their second child, Carol Jean Huddleston, was born on October 28, 1957. She spent her days supporting and encouraging them in school and in all their activities. She loved having their friends come over for Christmas parties, slumber parties, and just to play. Sue was thrilled when the grandchildren began arriving. She loved babysitting, playing, and attending events with them. Her house was always open to them and their friends. They were the apple of her eye. Sue recently became a great-grandmother to Ayden Stevenson and Holly Elizabeth O'Rear.
Sue loved her many friends. She spent a lot of time talking to them on the phone and sending them cards on their birthdays and at Christmas. She enjoyed having them over for luncheons and parties.
She is survived by her loving husband, Stanley Huddleston, of the home; son Steve Huddleston and wife Penny of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter Carol O'Rear and husband Charles of Ponca City; five grandchildren, Michael O'Rear and wife Elizabeth, Kyle O'Rear and wife Sarah, Katie Huddleston and fiance Beau Saucier, Clayton Huddleston and wife Kristen, and Claire Huddleston; two great grandchildren, Ayden Stevenson and Holly Elizabeth O'Rear; niece Jackie Bowlin of Tulsa, and nephew Bill Hipsher of Wichita. Special thanks to caregivers Rachel Masters and Joyce Bruce.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Ruby Green and step-mother Alice Green; sisters Glynore Flick, Gloria Mae Green, Anne Hipsher and a brother, Garnett Jesse Green, who died in infancy.
Sue was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She loved the beauty of the earth and she loved her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed.
The funeral service will be held at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Larry Meredith will be officiating.
Casket bearers will be Steve Huddleston, Charles O'Rear, Michael O'Rear, Kyle O'Rear, Clayton Huddleston, and Beau Saucier.
