Sue Cheryl Montgomery passed away on August 20, 2026 at the age of 94 years. She was born in Rosedale, Oklahoma on November 15, 1931 and moved to several towns in the Rosedale area during her youth. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1949. Sue was active on the high school basketball team. Her father Wallace Drummond was the head basketball coach. Sue's senior year her team made it to the Oklahoma state championship game where they were defeated in triple overtime. Sue went on to college and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for two years and then spent one semester at Oklahoma State University. She graduated with a BA in Art from the University of Oklahoma. Her first job was teaching Art at Blackwell, Oklahoma, then she moved down to Fort Worth, Texas and continued to teach Art for several years. There she became engaged to Bill Montgomery. They were soon married and moved around to several states as Bill was active in the "Oil Patch".
Sue was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Tulsa, and was involved in helping shepherd a young marrieds' class for many years. She loved the world of art and spent many days crafting her skill and providing countless art treasures for family and friends. One of her paintings was featured in a Ronald McDonald fund-raising event. In her later years she spent her time visiting friends whose health was failing, and providing a comforting shoulder to lean on. She also became an avid OU football fan. Her Sooners could do no wrong. She was a wonderful wife, mother and prayer warrior. She was adored by her family and will be sorely missed. We celebrate her life and look forward to a wonderful future reunion in her new heavenly home!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Montgomery, in 2004.
Sue is survived by her son Robert Montgomery and wife Annette, grandchildren Erin and Jon and wife Kacey; great grandson Walker; daughter Jill McKechnie and husband Steve and grandchildren Drew and wife Ashley, and James; great grandson Owen, sister Jane Billman and husband Mark.
