Susan Maureen Summar, 59, a long-time resident of Tulsa, passed from this life into the arms of Our Lord on August 8, 2014.
Susan was born on July 27, 1955 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Glen T. Summar and Sarah A. Summar. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Susan grew up in Tulsa before moving to Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and graduating from Ft. Gibson High School in 1973. After high school Susan attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Dallas where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While working toward her Master degree Susan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. When she could no longer continue her studies she moved back to Oklahoma to be near her family, eventually returning to Tulsa.
Though unable to physically attend classes, Susan continued her education through correspondence and online courses. Blessed with a quick wit and irrepressible sense of humor and sustained by her Faith, Susan maintained a positive outlook on life even as her physical limitations increased. She was a tireless supporter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Susan is survived by her long-time friend, Michael Moritz, her brothers Stephen Summar and Keith Summar, both of Tulsa, and brother John Summar and sister-in-law Kim Anderson Summar of Conifer, CO. She is also survived by her nieces Abigail Summar, Jillian Summar and Stephanie Summar, and her nephews John Paul Summar, Andrew Summar and Lucas Summar. Susan leaves behind cousins Kathy Jackson, Katie Winniford and Nancy Ashby of Dallas, TX, Julia Horne of Austin, TX and Sarah Abraham of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 23 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel. In lieu of flowers Susan's family requests donations to any of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
