Tawana (Sonny) Martin, 88, longtime Tulsa resident, went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2017. Tawana was born March 5, 1928 in Alma, AR and was raised on the family farm near Van Buren. After graduating from nursing school, Tawana married the love of her life, Bob J. Martin, in 1949. The couple settled in Tulsa in the 1950's and raised their two daughters, Rebecca and Jennifer. Tawana worked hard as a nurse for over twenty years before retiring, a fitting profession for someone with her patience and compassion.
Tawana was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and beloved dog, Snoopy. She loved cooking, reading and attending church.
Tawana was known for her feisty and good sense of humor, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Tawana is survived by her children, Jennifer Bowden and her husband Robert of Tulsa; Rebecca Baltzle of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Amber Litwack and her husband Zach and Brent Bowden, all of Tulsa; her nephew, Bill Jackson and his wife Mavis of Tulsa and many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harley and Rebecca Smalley; her husband, Bob Martin; her sister, Pearl Jackson and her husband Dibrell and her nephew Bob Jackson and his wife Betty.
