Thea Jane Hamrick Hart, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2023. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Thea Hart warmed the lives of everyone with whom she came in contact. She is survived by her husband, Larry Hart; her children, Melanie Suzanne Hart Ysen and spouse, Travis William Ysen; Kevin O'Brien Hart and spouse, Jessica Elizabeth Ragland Hart; and Jonathan Douglas Hart and spouse, Joyce Ni King Hart; and her grandchildren, Sarah Jane Ysen, Ella Linne Ysen, Lian Douglas Hart, River O'Brien Hart, and John Richard (Jack) Hart. Thea was born on September 12, 1950 in Huntington, West Virginia, the daughter of Eugene Ray Hamrick and Myrtle Helen Frampton. She was a graduate of Huntington East High School (1968) and Marshall University (1972). Larry and Thea were married on August 4, 1973 at Highlawn Baptist Church, Huntington, West Virginia. In her varied career, Thea worked as a teacher of blind mobility and sensory training, as a rehabilitation counselor for the states of West Virginia and Kentucky, as a realtor, and in billing and finance for Williams Communications, Wil-Tel, and Level Three, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Thea was active in her faith from her earliest years. She served as a student chaplain in her high school years, giving devotionals to the whole school over the loud speaker system. She was very active in Campus Crusade for Christ on the Marshall University campus, being a vital part of the spiritual awakening that took place on that campus during dramatic years of national unrest and the tragic plane crash that took the lives of the football team, coaches, and several community leaders. She served as a summer missionary with Campus Crusade on Cape Cod as well. Being a devoted homemaker, Thea raised three children while serving with her husband in pastoral ministry in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida.
Anyone who knew Thea, knew that she was unique in all the world. She was the most lovable person one could ever meet-instantly likeable and unconditional in her love toward everyone. She had a quick wit and keen insight into individuals and situations. Larry and Thea had numerous travel opportunities, both in his teaching ministry and with family and friends, in destinations such as Argentina, Sweden, South Korea, Israel, Europe and the Mediterranean, and Hawaii. Thea was a voracious reader, processing a book much more quickly than her scholarly husband. She had focused, competent, and confident opinions on biblical/theological and social/political issues, but always with a loving and accepting attitude toward anyone who might differ with her. Her Christ-like character and fruitful walk with the Savior have left an enduring legacy.
