Thelma Jo (Gay) Chestnut was born August 4, 1935, in Blackwell, OK. She was affectionately known as "TJ". She grew up on the Brown oil lease in the Covington area. She graduated from Covington High School in 1953. She played basketball and was involved in many activities.
In 1956, she married Robert "Mac" Chestnut in Tonkawa, OK. They made their home in Tulsa for nearly 60 years. TJ was employed at Tulsa Steel as a secretary for several years. She was one of 8 children of John and Verna Gay. She was preceded in death by brothers J.C. and Billy, also 3 sisters: June Lawson, Wanda Donaldson, and Nona Lawson. She is survived by one sister, Joy Gibson, of Buchanan Dam, Texas, and one brother, Larry Gay, of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Hobbies included painting and needlework. She loved the trips to Las Vegas where she helped Mac with the Okie Golf Tournament for 36 years.
Through the years, she and Mac attended Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Asbury Methodist Church and occasionally Bethlehem Baptist Church near Enid.
