Obituary

Thomas P. Harris, Jr., petroleum engineer, geologist and independent oil and gas Producer, died on February 4, 2016 at the age of 81. Tom was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. He was a 1952 graduate of Tulsa Central High School where he was co-captain of the football team and President of the Boys League. He attended Okla. A&M for one semester and was a pledge of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He finished his degree at the University of Oklahoma where he received a B.S. Degree in Geological Engineering in January of 1957. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and President of the Society of American Military Engineers while at O.U.

Following college he served 6 months active duty in the Corp of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, VA. and Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He served 7 1/2 years in the "Ready Reserves." He remained in retired reserves as a First Lieutenant until his death.

He married Margaret Hurd of Muskogee on June 3, 1955 and they had two daughters, Judith Lee and Lori Lynne. After their divorce in 1970, Tom remarried "the love of his life," Mickey Hudson of Canton, N.C., on April 7, 1973. Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mickey, and his daughter, Judy.

Tom worked for Sunray D-X for 8 years doing various production and exploration jobs. The majority of the time he was a Division Reserve and Log Analyst at Midland, Texas.
He then worked for Helmerich and Payne, Inc. in Tulsa for 5 yrs as their Reservoir Engineer and Manager of Exploration. The most productive and fun time of his working career was the 12 years spent with Nadel and Gussman working as their Chief Engineer and Manager of Exploration. After retiring he became a partner in R.D.T. Properties and did some consulting for others and drilled, purchased and sold oil and gas properties.

He was a past President of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts, member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of A.I.M.A. and a Registered Professional Engineering and Land Surveyor with the State of Oklahoma.
