Obituary

Thomas A Johnston was born in Chicago on January 7, 1929 and left this earth for HIGHER GROUND on October 25, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Laura, and one sister Barbara. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Betty J. Johnston.

Tom, a long-time resident of Tulsa, graduated from Central High School and went on to graduate with a Business Degree from Tulsa University in 1952.

Tom Johnston's 2nd home was the Golden Hurricane Football stadium for nearly 80 years. He hadn't missed a home game since 1937, when his dad, his best friend, took him to his first game, at then Skelly Stadium, when he was nine years old. Even after it was renamed Chapman Stadium and renovated, Johnston maintained his 50-yd line seat on the bleachers instead of the VIP luxury seats in the "One Oak Club", to honor his father.

Tom was honored on national TV on ESPN when the bronze statue of famous #45, and later coach, Glen Dobbs, was donated by Johnston to the University. Just recently he was presented his SECOND GAME BALL by Brian Scislo, Sr. Associate Athletic Director.

Tom's entrepreneurial spirit and sincere handshake earned him great business success and a multitude of friends. When he wasn't supporting the Golden Hurricanes, he loved to bowl and play golf, excelling in both and awarded many trophies.

He will be missed by many and remembered by all.
