Thomas A. Oakley, age 94, passed away on December 29, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born on July 26, 1930, to John Calvin and Flora Jane Oakley in Coweta, Oklahoma. He attended Tulsa schools including Whittier Elementary, Cleveland Jr. High and Central High School.
Tom married Lelia Beatrice Thompson on February 28,1948 and they enjoyed 73 years together until her death in 2021.
In 1988 Tom retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was a lifelong golfer and enjoyed playing on various area courses. For many years he played twice a week in the Sapulpa Senior Scramble. He had many notices in The Tulsa World for his top scores. His TV fare included watching major golf tournaments and his beloved Oklahoma Sooners. Tom also enjoyed boating and fishing on Fort Gibson Lake with his wife Bea and friends Mary Lou and Patrick.
Tom is survived by son John Raymond Oakley and wife Debbie, granddaughter Cheryl Price, great-grandchildren Matthew Price and wife Leslie, Jonah, Isaac and Johnny Price; granddaughter Michelle Hessman, great-grandchildren Samantha Merrell and Christina Hobbs; grandson John Dustin Oakley and wife Debra, great-grandchildren Hope Humphrey, Ethan Oakley, Lily Oakley; grandson Matt Wood and wife Alyssa, great-grandchildren Lyla, Lucy and Annie Wood; daughter-in-law Doreen Oakley; sister Joanna Clark, many nieces and nephews, and caregiver Jennifer Efaw. A kind and gentle soul, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bea, his son Thomas A. Oakley, Jr, his great-grandson Alex Merrell, his brothers Leslie Hayes, James, William and Herbert Oakley; sisters Lucile Agoff and Mary Downey.
A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
