Thomas ]oseph Thompson Jr., was born on August 17, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama and died in Tulsa on February 7, 2021. He was born to Thomas Joseph Thompson and Ruby (Underwood) Thompson. Friends and Family knew him as Tommy. Tommy spent his early years in Springfield, Missouri. He would tell the story of how he would ride his horse, Lady, to school. Tommy earned a football scholarship to the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1965. Raised as an only child, he considered his football brothers and his SAE fraternity brothers as family. He married his college sweetheart, Janet Neal Thompson, in 1964, and together, they had two children. They remained happily married for fifty-six years. It was obvious to his family that Janet was the center of his universe. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Tommy spent most of his career in the financial industry and made close friends that lasted a lifetime. He had an exuberance for life and shared it with everyone he knew. Tommy never knew a stranger. He was devoted to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, sharing a scripture daily with his grandchildren. He was an avid Jayhawk fan, snow skier, horse lover, traveler and adventurer. Among his favorite pastimes were watching his grandchildren play sports, raising horses and KU basketball. He also treasured family vacations to Crested Butte, Colorado, where he taught his children how to ski and summer vacations to Vail, Colorado to enjoy the mountains on horseback. Together, he and Janet enjoyed their travels, their friendships, and especially their trips to Lawrence, Kansas to cheer on the Jayhawks. He loved coaching his children's sports team and enjoyed the simple things in life.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Thompson; son, Thomas Joseph Thompson, III, and daughter-in-law, Nicole Thompson, of Minneapolis; daughter, Amy Kay Brookover, and son-in-law, Clint Brookover of Tulsa; grandchildren, Neal, Caitlin and Elisabeth Thompson, and Camden, Cole and Cai Brookover.
