Vada Joyce McWilliams Wasson was born August 17, 1927 in Lake Village, Arkansas to Robert D. and Gertrude Barcus McWilliams. She was raised with her brother, Robert, Jr. and sister, Trudy.
She was graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and had some college courses at the University of Tulsa. She went to work at Magic Empire Express in Tulsa, and worked there over the years until it closed in 1982. She updated her resume with computer classes and worked in the payroll dept. of Helmerich and Payne Drilling Company until her retirement in 1992.
On August 8, 1948, she married Dennis A. Wasson at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Together they raised three sons, Samuel, Norman and Curtis. They enjoyed nearly 58 years together until his death in March, 2006.
When Curt took a job in Paris, France, she and Dennis enjoyed several trips to France to visit him, and tour the country where they made many cherished memories.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, was active in Sunday School and on several committees, and served as church secretary for a short time. Vada loved music, travel, reading, crossword puzzles, college football and basketball (especially TU and OU), and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Vada died on May 30, 2013 at age 85 at the Oklahoma Methodist Manor, where she had lived since 2002. Even in declining health, she made the best of any situation and made friends wherever she was. One Thanksgiving at the Manor, they reserved a table for her family dinner with a card saying ?Vada?s party?. One aide noted, ?With Vada, it is always a party.? Indeed, she was a joy to know and love.
She is survived by her sons, Samuel Wasson of Little Axe, OK; the Rev. Norman Wasson and wife, the Rev. Ann Wasson, of Skiatook, OK; and Curtis Wasson and wife, Mary Wasson, of Tulsa, OK; eight grandchildren: Samantha Mysee, Nicholas, Alex, Whitney, Andrew, Elizabeth, Emma and Julia Wasson; nine great- grandchildren; her sister, Trudy Plowman and husband, the Rev. Howard Plowman and family; and sister-in-law, Peggy Sessums and family. Her parents, brother, husband, and grandson, Benjamin, preceded her in death. Thanks be to God for the gift of Vada Wasson.
