Obituary

Velma Inez Bailey, born February 4, 1925, in Dayton, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2013, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.


Velma accepted Christ at the age of 14 at Immanual Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas, during a revival led by Angel Martinez. She met the love of her life, Howard B. Bailey at Bailey Hill Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Howard and Velma were married September 22, 1941.
She loved to cook, make candy and crochet. She loved her family, her church family, going to the lake, and camping.
Velma always felt that God had gifted her with the ability to make friends easily. She loved people and always enjoyed fellowship with other Christians.
Velma worked at Pipkin Photo Shop in Oklahoma City for many years.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, her parents, William Everett Byers and Ora Holley Byers, brothers, Paul Byers, Cecil Byers, sisters, Ina Hill and Pauline Witcher.

Velma is survived by two children, Phillip Bailey and wife Rowena, of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Judy Nix of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Angela Moore, Michel Davis and Glen Bailey, wife, Kolee, nine great grandchildren, one great, great, grandson and special niece, Melissa Backward. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Geneva Neal, of Ft. Smith, AR, and special cousin Kathryn Henry and husband Theral of Greenwood, Arkansas, and many special nieces and nephews.

Velma was an active member of Arrow Heights Baptist Church and sang in the senior choir. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., at Arrow Heights Baptist Church-Broken Arrow with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
