Obituary

Gibbon, Vera R., 96, died Friday, November 21, 2014. Vera was born in
Clay Center, Kansas, September 20, 1918, to Marshall and Louise (Ditman) Rose. After high school and some business college training, Vera and a friend took jobs as secretaries with the War Department in Washington, D.C. It was there that she met her husband, Edward Gibbon. He had enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was initially stationed in Washington, D.C., later transferring to Fort Worth, Texas. After discharge from the service Edward and Vera moved to Pryor, OK, and finally to Tulsa. After initially staying home with her two sons, Vera worked for R. G. Hamilton, a Tulsa petroleum geologist. She and her husband were founding members of the Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society, Inc. Vera and her family were members of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. Vera was later employed at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where she was involved in the design and construction plan for flood plain management of the Verdigris and Arkansas Rivers. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Gibbon, Sr., and her son, Gail Gene Gibbon. Vera is survived by her son: Edward J. Gibbon, Jr., Houston, TX; Grandsons: Matthew L. Gibbon and his wife, Elizabeth, Fayetteville, AR, Conner T. Gibbon, Houston, TX, and Eric J. Gibbon, KatY- TX; Great grandsons: Maximus and Alexander Gibbon, Fayetteville, AR. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Charity of Choice. Memorial Service 4 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014, Moore's Southlawn Chapel.
