Vera Maple Huffman, 99, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of St. Clair, MO and Hannibal, MO died November 22, 2014. Born in Falls Creek, IL on August 5, 1915, Vera possessed a positive attitude throughout her life that was a delight to all who knew her.
Vera, daughter of the late J. Newton Maple and Vera Daring Maple, was an accomplished seamstress and beautician. She also worked for the International Shoe Co. in the ticket office in St. Clair, MO. Adored by her family, Vera was a skillful fisherman, doll and quilt maker and cook. It was said that Vera even shot two squirrels with one bullet on the banks of the Mississippi River -- a tale that elated family members through the years.
Vera was an active member of First Christian Church in Hannibal, MO and St. Clair Methodist Church. She spent many hours volunteering and participating in activities at the St. Clair Senior Center. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband Raymond F. Huffman and by her brothers Newt Jr., John, Vernon, James and David, Eugene and Harold; and sisters, Mary, Suzanna and Florence. She is survived by her daughters: Juanita Griggs and Doris Ann Marks. Grandchildren: Kathy Marks, Linda and Mark Cress, Steve and Denise Griggs and Scott and Martha Dickman. Great Grandchildren: Ashley Velazquez, Avery Thomas, Travis Griggs, Trevor Griggs, Kit Dickman, Caroline Dickman, Ricky Quattlebaum. Great Great Grandchildren: Parker Thomas, Annie Kate Thomas, Lexie Velazquez and Toby Velazquez.
Burial will be in Grandview Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
