Verna Marie (Hampson) Herem age 96 of Tulsa, OK (formerly of Ogden, Utah) died on February 5, 2015.
She was born May 12, 1918 in Graettinger, Iowa, daughter of Thomas and Emma (Bergum) Hampson.
She married Thomas Herem on March 2, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. He died January 26,1986.
She was raised in Palo Alto County Iowa and attended schools in Graettinger, Forest City Iowa, and Minneapolis Minnesota. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Iowa and Los Angeles California and also worked for 18 years at the Bon Marche in Ogden, Utah.
She was a member of North Park Church in Roy, Utah and an auxiliary member of the Ogden Rescue Mission. Previously she was a Sunday School teacher and officer in various organizations. In her 80's she volunteered for Ogden City schools as a reading tutor.
She lived in Ogden, Utah for 57 years before moving to Tulsa, OK to be near family.
She is survived by her brother Edwin Hampson of Valpraiso, IN, three
daughters; Carole Quinn Nylander of Pleasant View, Utah, Phyllis Hofer of DeWitt, Iowa, and Gloria Bailey of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, a sister and two son-in-Iaws.
Verna's passions were her faith in Jesus, her family, Scrabble, coffee and fashion - in that order! She cherished her friendships and continued to make new friends clear up until her death. A private memorial service will be held in Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
