Vernal Mark (Moran) Dillon, 95, passed away in Owasso, OK on January 9, 2021. Born July 30, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Roy Mark and Lela Edna (Caldwell) Moran.
Growing up, Vernal and her family attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa. She and her sisters enjoyed singing and playing the piano. One of her favorite activities was roller skating. In 1941, Vernal, age 16, met Lewy Dillon, age 19, at the Wheel Roller Skating Rink, formerly located at Mohawk Park, in Tulsa. He was in the Army attending Spartan School of Aeronautics.
Vernal graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1943. After high school, because of her excellent secretarial skills in shorthand and typing, she worked as a secretary for a Tulsa business. She corresponded with some soldiers during WWII, one of them was Lewy. Lewis Nathan Dillon and Vernal were married July 15, 1945.
Vernal enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and reading her Bible, and continued to share her love of music with her four children and her church by being in adult choirs, and teaching children's choirs at Parkland Baptist Church. She and Lewis became members of Eastwood Baptist Church and served there for 53 years. She was active in church life including singing in the adult choir.
Vernal can say, "I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. We will always remember her for her love of God and His Word, encouraging others, with her loving smile, Bible verses, singing hymns and songs, and loving her family.
Vernal was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and her beloved husband of 74 years. She is survived by her son, Lewis Dillon II (Lynda) of Norman, and daughters Julia (Tony) Moffett of Coweta, Nancy Campbell of Tulsa, and Cindy (Frank) Braswell of Upland, Indiana. She is leaving behind a heritage of 16 grandchildren, 31+ great grandchildren and 3+ great-great grandchildren.
We want to give special thanks to the Baptist Village of Owasso, and the loving care she received in The Evergreen Home, for the past 3 years.
