Vernie was born March 2, 1938 in Spavinaw, OK to the Rev. Thomas and Lottie B. Shirel. She resided for all of her life in and around Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was called to dwell with her Lord and Savior on March 18, 2019. She was employed for most of her unmarried adult life in retail grocery and food service businesses in Tulsa. After her marriage she also served as a volunteer and substitute grade school teacher. She was a graduate of Ramona, Oklahoma High School. Much of her adult life, along with her husband, was devoted to the loving care and nurture of their daughter, Leanna, who was mentally and physically handicapped.
Vernie was married to Roger Williams on June 11, 1971. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Leanna Denise Williams, Four sisters, Myrtle Shirel, Nadine Gregory, Violet Dobson and Anna Mae (Ann or Annie) Keller and two brothers, Harold and Rev. Harley Shirel and her mother and father. She is survived by her husband, Roger D. Williams; one son, Roger Thomas (Tom), his wife Heidi, and their two children, Reagan and Ryan Williams; her four brothers, Rev. Olen, Rev. Billy G., Jerry (wife Donna), and Edward (Leroy) (wife Sally) Shirel. Also by many loving nieces and nephews and their families. She was a member of The First United Pentecostal Church of Tulsa.
