Vernon "Vern" Dale Stanton passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, four days shy of his 94th birthday. Vern loved life, his family, his friends. He had an infectious passion for !ifelong knowledge, experiences, and especially connecting with others throughout each community and organization he was a part of. Vern never knew a stranger, as he made friends wherever he went.
Vern was born on September 14th, 1928 to parents Frank Henderson Stanton and Jessie Maude Garrard in Eldorado, Kansas.
ln 1946, Vern first enlisted in the United States Navy, where he attended the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. At the time of his honourable discharge in 1953, he held the rank of Electronics Technician Third Class, and had received the WWll Victory Medal.
Vern met the love of his life, Doris Jean Adams at the local Soda Shop where she worked in Eldorado, Kansas, and in 1951, they wed. Vern and Doris went on to have 2 daughters, Sandy, and Sherri.
Upon graduating, Vern began what would be a 34-year career with TD Williamson. ln more than one of his annual evaluations, it was mentioned he "had extensive knowledge of company products and experience in various areas of the company", one had noted he was "the go-to guy", most likely one of the reasons for his 3-year promotion/transfer to Ontario, Canada. At the time of his retirement, Vern held the position of Senior Engineering Designer, and without a doubt, left with many cherished friendships and memories.
Vern's connections ran wide and deep, stemming from his professional career, his hobbies, and into his day-to-day life; his colleagues-turned into true and lasting friends from T D Williamson, many who still met for lunch well past retirement. Friendships "carved" from a shared passion for the art of woodcarving; contacts made across the airwaves through his amateur (ham) radio hobby (Vern's callsign being NSBAT), and bonds made within the walls of his last residence, Saint Simeon's, through his own volunteer involvement, as well as with both residents and staff alike, including his and Doris' neighbours across the hall, who became such wonderful and special friends, Nancy and Tom. Tom and Vern shared a similar intelligence, had the same sharp wit, and never had a problem sharing a beer, watching football games, and eating peach pie on the holiday. One can't help but think the both of them now, must be sharing a beer and each other's company once again.
Vern is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Stanton; his loving daughters, Sandy Lewis (Bruce, deceased), of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, and Sherri Wingo, of Tulsa; his grandchildren, Shalon of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, and Brandon (Gina), of Tulsa, and Great Grandchildren, Dalanie and Braydon, both of Tulsa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jessie Stanton, his brothers, Robert, William, Donald, Walter, Wayne and sister, Frances. The void his absence has left behind never will be - nor should it ever, be filled.
Vern, Dad, Grandpa, 'NSBAT", will be deeply missed by friends and family who will be forever grateful to have known him.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 15th at 2pm, central time with the Funeral Services following at 3pm, central time. All services will be held at Moore Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa, Oklahoma 918-663-2233
