Victor Roy Lahti, age 67, went home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on October 29, 1951, to Wilbert Victor and Gerda Mae Lahti of Antioch, Illinois.
Vic attended Northern Illinois University, earning both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geology.
His first job took him to Houston, TX, where he met his wife, Merry Ehlert Lahti, and where they married on November 26, 1977. Vic has lived with his family in Tulsa, OK, since 1988, where he worked as a petroleum geologist for many years. Vic led The Afghanistan Perceivers (a local Sherlock Holmes society), and was a member of the Tulsa Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Vic was an avid Star Trek "Trekker" (fan), since the show premiered in 1966, collecting every episode that aired, book written, and other memorabilia. He loved to share his passion for gardening, often finding cuttings from all over the US to bring back and plant in his ever-growing garden, and sharing cuttings from his garden with anyone. He was an enthusiastic reader, with an extensive library of books on subjects ranging from geology, Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes (of course), to history, gardening, and others. He volunteered wherever he could help, including at the local elementary schools with test monitoring and for Tulsa Ballet. Vic "never knew a stranger" and would share stories or jokes with everyone he met. Although Vic did not grow up attending church, his relationship with Jesus Christ influenced every area of his life, and he loved to share his faith.
Vic is survived by his wife, Merry Ehlert Lahti; his two children, Amanda Kyle Lahti of Louisville, KY, and Andrew Lahti and his wife Colleen of Tulsa; his brothers, William Lahti and his wife Diane of Raleigh, NC; Jeffrey Lahti of southern California, and Douglas Lahti and his wife Liz of Raleigh, NC; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family visitation at the funeral home will be from 1-3:00pm Sunday, May 19, 2019. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:00pm, Sunday, May 19, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Tulsa Botanic Garden or the Linnaeus Teaching Garden would be appreciated. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
